JUSTINE KIRKHAM, DESIGN DIRECTOR AT STYLESMITH INTERIORS
A project developed by Zephyr X, operated by EQ Care Group, and designed by Stylesmith Interiors. Our involvement began while Stylesmith Interiors were developing the initial moodboards for Willow Lodge - the designers established the creative vision for Willow Lodge, defining the schemes across the home. Our role in this was to turn that specification into a tangible furniture package, ensuring the final furniture closely reflected the designers’ original specification while meeting the practical requirements of a care environment.
With thousands of individual items, hundreds of new product styles and a large number of bespoke elements, this home required detailed planning across product development, manufacturing, procurement, logistics and installation – a project that demonstrated not only the scale Furncare can deliver, but the level of coordination required behind the scenes to bring a detailed interior specification to site successfully.
Rather than applying a standard scheme throughout the building, the specification included a considerable amount of variation between different rooms and areas - bedrooms formed a major part of this, with fitted and freestanding pieces supplied across the home.
One of the more distinctive elements was the bespoke fitted bedroom furniture, including substantial 2.1m-high triple wardrobes in a cashmere finish. The scale of these pieces gave the bedrooms a strong, built-in appearance while also providing the perfect amount of storage required within each room.
Unlike a straightforward freestanding furniture order, fitted elements also required closer coordination with the dimensions and layout of the building. Manufacturing tolerances and site measurements needed to align before installation could be completed.
The bedroom furniture was only one part of the bespoke specification, as across Willow Lodge, a number of pieces required additional development to achieve the details set out within the interior scheme. Among the 130 windows across the home we dressed with bespoke curtains and blinds, a distinctive example was those in the café, where curved pelmets were produced. Rather than using a standard straight pelmet, the curved design highlighted the architecture and character of the interior, requiring a more bespoke approach to manufacture and installation.
With more than 2,300 individual items to bring to site, delivery and installation was a significant part of the project. More than 30 van loads were coordinated over the course of the fit-out, resulting in over 725 driver hours on site.
Installation took place while work was still progressing across the building, with decorating underway in some areas and external groundworks still at an early stage. As different rooms became available at different times, deliveries had to be carefully coordinated around the progress on site.
Our white-glove delivery service meant the process continued further than just getting furniture to the door - our drivers took items directly to their intended rooms, where they assembled the furniture and positioned it ready for use. Across a project of this scale, this approach ensured the smoothest install for the home.
The completed home reflects the level of detail carried throughout the project, with each bedroom and communal space displaying its part of the overall scheme. For the team at Furncare, Willow Lodge demonstrates the scale and complexity we can support while maintaining the attention to detail required across every individual product and space.
